We eagerly await Charleston’s summers throughout the year. Whether it’s soaking up the sun on long beach days, immersing ourselves in the sounds of a music festival, or savoring sunset dinners at the city’s fantastic outdoor dining spots, there’s an activity for every taste.

While the beach holds its allure, it’s equally refreshing to discover other experiences during the extended summer days. Here are some of our favorite recurring events in Charleston to help you plan your summer adventures.

Sip & Stroll @ Drayton Hall | May 11th & June 1st

Drayton Hall’s annual Sip & Stroll event includes a landscape audio tour, a complimentary wine glass or koozie, and access to various exhibits. Including the Caretaker’s House Exhibit, Gallery Exhibit, African American Cemetery, Gift Shop, and River Walk. Spoleto Festival USA | May 11th – June 9th

Charleston’s annual Spoleto Festival USA hosts renowned artists and new performers in multiple genres, including opera, theater, and dance, plus a wide variety of music—from symphonic and chamber to choral, jazz, and folk. 4th of July Fireworks Blast @ Patriots Point | July 4th

Held from 6:00 – 10:00 pm, Patriots Point’s 4th of July Fireworks blast will include live music, access to more than a dozen food trucks, and a fireworks show after sundown. Tickets are not required, but parking is $20 per vehicle. To learn more about the event, see the Historic Charleston website.

Charleston Farmers Market | Saturdays Starting April 13th

Every Saturday from April to November, Marion Square hosts the Charleston Farmers Market. With booths featuring local produce, food and beverage vendors, art for sale, and live music, this weekly event is a must-visit during the summer months. 2nd Sundays on King Street | Every 2nd Sunday of the Month

Every second Sunday of the month, from 12 – 5 pm, organizers shut down King Street from Queen to Calhoun to through traffic. This allows pedestrians to walk down King Street and shop around, visiting the shops, booths, and vendors on the street. Cars & Coffee | May 18th, June 15th, July 20th, August 17th, & September 21st

Monthly, from 9:00 – 11:00 am, stop by Freshfields Village to check out antique and other unique cars while enjoying breakfast from Freshfield’s JavaJava Coffee shop. Visit Freshfields Village’s website for more details on this event and others like it.

LIVE at Firefly Concerts | May 20th, 25th, & 31st, June 27th, July 20th, & 25th, August 13th, & 31st

Firefly Distillery is set to host live concerts on multiple dates throughout the upcoming summer season. The performances are family-friendly, and tickets are required for children aged two and above. For further information and ticket purchases, visit the Firefly Distillery website.

Music on the Green | Fridays Starting May 31st

On Fridays throughout the summer, Freshfields Village will host free, family-friendly concerts with live music from regional bands around the Lowcountry. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs to enjoy an evening of tunes from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. To learn more about the event, check out the Freshfields Village website.

Charleston Sprint Triathlon Series | June 16th, July 7th, July 28th, August 11th

The triathlon, held at James Island County Park, features a 600-yard freshwater swim, a 12-mile bike ride, and a 5k flat run. Over the years, more than 30,000 individuals have taken part in the series. Earning recognition from the Charleston Metro Sports Council as one of the Top Ten Charleston Signature Sport Events. The Charleston Museum | Summer Events

The Charleston Museum, located at 360 Meeting Street, has several new exhibits and workshops planned for the summer. From new exhibit, The Art of Abstraction Modernism in Quilting, to hands-on workshops ranging in topics from Printing with Mordants and Natural Dyeing with Local Artist Kristy Bishop to a Gullah Rag Rug workshop with Quilter Artist and Designer Cookie Washington, there is something for everyone.
