Charleston Design – Celebrated in Style!

A unique blend of local and national events highlighting southern design, creativity and architecture came together in Charleston this month for the first Charleston Design Week. The Southern Style Now Festival kicked off on Thursday, Nov. 1, and ran through Sunday, Nov. 4. Produced by Robert and Michael Leleux, the festival was a celebration of design, marked by keynote speeches and panel discussions led by industry experts. Attendees were invited to exclusive home and museum tours, cooking demonstrations, flower arranging workshops, and more throughout the duration of the week.

Over the summer, Design in Great Spaces (DIGS) invited design professionals and individuals alike to submit projects, which showcased their creative design in architecture, interiors and landscape design. The original work was designed around eleven different categories from A Room With a View to The “Me” Room. 

The award ceremony was held in early November at the Cedar Room in Charleston’s Cigar Factory. A celebration of quality work and passion, DIGS showcased the architecture, décor, and designs that make Charleston such a marvelous city. Beau Clowney Architects and Jenny Keenan Design won Best in Show and $10,000 sponsored by Traditional Home and Explore Charleston.

Nationally acclaimed design-world luminaries served as judges of the competition, including Traditional Home Editor in Chief, Jill Waage, architect Parker Platt, interior designers Matthew Carter, Ashley Whittaker and Nick Olsen, lighting designer Christopher Spitzmiller and landscape designer Mary T. Dial.

The design festivities concluded with Boozy Brunch, sponsored by Handsome Properties. Held at the historic Sword Gate House, the brunch provided attendees with an exclusive tour of the stately property. We had the opportunity to meet with VIP’s from around the East Coast, including representatives from Currey & Company and Digs and Dwellings – it was quite the handsome occasion!
