Handsome Properties October 10, 2016
We all know that Charleston’s geographic location makes it a vulnerable target in many ways for natural disasters like hurricanes and frequent flooding. What may not be as well known is the fact that each time Charleston gets knocked down by an unfortunate incident, the community does an incredible job of coming together and raising one another up. Charleston’s hospitable and attractive nature has been recognized time and again as it continues to earn the title of “No. 1 U.S. City” by readers of Conde Nast Magazine and, more recently, “Best City in the World” by readers of Travel + Leisure Magazine.
But maybe there’s a little more to it than the beautiful scenery and its smiling residents. We’ve come to understand that the real reason why so many of us love this city as much as we do is because of the genuine concern our neighbors have for our well-being and the way we all come together when times are tough. Take this past weekend as an example. No, Charleston was not the city hardest hit by Hurricane Matthew, and comparatively, we made out alright in terms of property damage.
But as everyone started emerging onto the streets after the storm passed, the outpouring of honest concern and love that they brought with them was amazingly comforting. Many of us are still without power, cable, internet, hot water, etc., but Charleston’s residents have handled a not-so-good situation with the class and dignity that remind us exactly why we choose to call this place home. Charleston, we wouldn’t change a thing about you.
