Places in Charleston You’ve Seen on Your TV

Have you been sitting in your home watching TV and thought to yourself, ‘Have I seen that spot somewhere around town?’ The answer is most likely yes! With the third season of Netflix’s fan-favorite OBX premiering February 23rd, here are some places you can go visit in Charleston that you have also seen on your TV. From luxurious venues in Mt. Pleasant, Downtown, and James Island to stores and places in and near the Citadel Mall here are places in Charleston on TV.

Isle of Palms, South Carolina

As Seen on OBX:

Ocean Course Clubhouse

  • Where – 1000 Ocean Course Dr, Johns Island, SC 29455
  • What – You may recognize this property as the midsummer event scene from OBX. However, you might also recognize this as Kiawah Island’s very own ocean course that hosted the PGA Championship in 2021. Whether you’re a golf enthusiast or an OBX fan, go visit and don’t miss out on the clubhouse restaurant, and Ryder Cup bar.

  • Where – 149 King St, Charleston, SC 29401
  • What– You saw this little store on OBX as a place Sarah and John B went to get disguises while completing their UNC Chapel Hill library research. In reality, this store is right here in the heart of the shopping district of downtown on King street offering “refined, traditional clothing for men & women”.

Lowndes Grove

  • Where – 266 St Margaret st., Charleston, SC 29403 
  • What – In OBX Lowndes Grove is featured as Sarah Cameron’s family home. In real life, Lowndes Grove is a 1786-era architectural historic home sitting on 14 acres featuring panoramic waterfront views. The space shines as a wedding and event venue, providing a relaxed and refined setting among bustling downtown Charleston.

Whirlin’ Waters Adventure Park

  • Where – 8888 University Blvd, North Charleston, SC 29406
  • What – The baptism wave pool featured in the beginning of the series was filmed at Whirlin’ Waters Adventure Park in North Charleston. Although the park is temporarily closed for the winter, once they open up for the summer it is a great day of fun for adults and kids to enjoy.

Citadel Mall

  • Where – 2070 Sam Rittenberg Blvd, Charleston, SC 29407 
  • What – Real life Citadel Mall acts as the shopping mall based mega church in Righteous Gemstones and is also known as Gemstone Prayer Center in Locust Grove.

Fenwick Hall Plantation

  • Where- 30 Fenwick Hall Allee, Johns Island, SC 29455 
  • What- The series Righteous Gemstones Fenwick Hall is portrayed as the Gemstones family’s house where they all live together on one property. In reality, Fenwick Hall is located on Johns Island.

While Fenwick Hall is not open to the public regularly, they host special programming throughout the year where they invite visitors to enjoy their exquisite grounds.

American Theater

  • Where– 446 King St, Charleston, SC 29403
  • What – Remember the iconic notebook scene where Noah and Allie lie down in the middle of the street takes place next to the American Theater? This is the spot, located on King Street the theater no longer plays movies but can be rented out for private events. As an added bonus, you can pay to have a message displayed on the theater sign for all of Charleston to see.

Boone Hall Plantation

  • Where- 1235 Long Point Rd, Mt. Pleasant, Charleston, SC 29464
  • What- In the Notebook the outside of Allie’s summer house was portrayed as Boone Hall Plantation. Located in Mt. Pleasant, you can take tours of the plantation grounds and learn about the property’s unique history. 

College of Charleston 

  • Where- 66 George St, Charleston, SC 29424
  • What- You may be confused seeing Charleston’s very own college on this list considering in the movie Allie attended Sarah Lawerence in New York. However, all of the college scenes were in fact shot on CofC’s campus.
