There’s no doubt that craft beer is one of the hottest culinary trends right now. We decided to check out some of the breweries that are popping up all over town to see what all the fuss is about and they did not disappoint! Here’s a short list of our favorite. Local tip: rent a bike from the new bike share program, Holy Spokes, and brewery hop around town!
Revelry Brewing Co. Located at 10 Conroy Street: This brewery has an amazing rooftop bar overlooking Cool Blow Park and offers views of the city and Ravenel Bridge. They also have live music on weekend nights and offer a wide selection of craft beers.
The Gullah Cream Ale is a local favorite that donates proceeds back to the Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor program. Revelry describes the beer as, “Brewed with white dent & yellow dent corn. Clear, golden & dry. Low ester production due to low fermentation temperatures & cold layering.” To read more about Revelery’s beer list and menu items (did we mention there’s a sushi truck?), visit their website here.
Palmetto Brewery Located at 289 Huger Street, Palmetto Brewery is South Carolina’s oldest brewery (open since 1993) and is a favorite among locals. Popular craft beers include The Ginger Slap and the Espresso Porter. Their own beer, Palmetto, is offered in many restaurants and bars around town, too. The brewery likes to mix things up with live music parties on the loading dock and sushi/craft beer making classes during the week.
Frothy Beard Located at 1401 Sam Rittenberg Boulevard, West of the Ashley, Frothy Beard just opened a new taproom and it’s certainly creating a buzz. With fun events like trivia nights and new beer launch parties, Frothy Beard also has great drink specials such as $3 off beer flights.
Edmunds Oast Located at 1081 Morrison Drive in the upper peninsula area of Charleston, Edmunds Oast is actually a restaurant, but their large craft beer selection makes them worth a visit. The name comes from a famous South Carolina brewer during the American Revolution named Edmund Egan where he earned himself the nickname “The Rebel Brewer.” The combination of a killer menu and craft beer makes this is a perfect date night spot.
Charles Towne Fermentory Located at 809 Savannah Highway in the popular and trendy Avondale area, this brewery is new but quickly earning a name for itself. Mars Express is a popular beer along with a few others on tap. The small taproom also has an open kitchen that serves light fare to accompany the brews.
