Top Bagel Shops in Charleston, SC

Handsome Properties April 21, 2023

Did you move to the South from up North and miss the taste of a New York bagel? Or did you just come home from a trip up North and are craving northern bagels? If so, this article is for you! The following are the top bagel shops in Charleston, SC.

Ruby’s New York Style Bagels

Located in Mt. Pleasant, Ruby’s is the place to be. Ruby’s came about when lifelong friends Joe Harvey and Kevin Roach, along with their partners Denise and Gail, moved to Mt. Pleasant from the Northeast. They noticed a collective problem — the need for good bagels in the South.

Of course, they heard the rumors everyone else heard: “You can’t make a good bagel outside of New York; it’s something about the water.” That’s when Kevin and Joe started experimenting and discovered they could, in fact, make a high-quality bagel in Charleston, SC. At Ruby’s, they sell bagels, homemade cream cheese, sandwiches, and coffee from their in-house coffee bar.

Bagel Nation

Holey City Bagels, Charleston, SC

With two locations — one in West Ashley’s Crossing and the other on Folly Road — Bagel Nation is one of the longest-lasting bagel shops in town, making it a local favorite. They serve freshly made bagels, breakfast sandwiches, coffee, wraps, paninis, salads, and soups to the Charleston community.

Their number one seller is the Southern Belle, a bagel with egg, Cajun spices, green peppers, tomatoes, sausage, and cheese.

Holey City Bagels

What started as a bagel food truck has grown into a shop on Cannon Street. Holey City is the perfect spot to grab breakfast before exploring historic downtown Charleston.

The shop is a family affair, owned and operated by Handsome Properties agent Bridget Byrne and her family. Holey City sells assorted bagels, bagel sandwiches, and coffee. Be sure to arrive early — this Jersey-owned bagel shop often runs out of bagels by noon.
