Outside the Tides Hotel on Folly Beach, on January 1st, they have a Polar Bear Plunge. However, this is not an average polar plunge. Every year, this plunge pays homage to Charleston’s very own Bill Murray. In fact, contestants are encouraged to come in costume and participate in the costume contest before they plunge into the chilly Atlantic.
Restaurant Week is always a fan favorite, and this year will be no exception. From January 9th to 19th, Charleston’s restaurants will offer specials, multi-course menu deals, and more. From November to March, Firefly Distillery hosts an Oyster Roast Series on one Sunday a month. This month, the roast will be held on January 19th. In addition to oysters, the roast includes music from Charleston DJs, food trucks, and cocktails from Firefly Distillery.
