Looking for a unique way to celebrate Valentine’s Day with your special someone in the Lowcountry? Consider a romantic getaway at one of Charleston’s historic homes on the peninsula—perfect for creating unforgettable memories together.

The Governor’s House Inn

The Governor’s House Inn is located at 117 Broad Street, South of Broad. It was originally the home of a Founding Father, Signer of the Declaration of Independence, and South Carolina’s 10th Governor – Edward Rutledge. The home was built in the 1760s by James Laurens, brother to the President of the Second Continental Congress, Henry Laurens. His son, John Laurens, served as aide-de-camp to President George Washington and was a close friend to Alexander Hamilton.

The inn is a pre-revolutionary National Historic Landmark, as there are original details throughout, including heart pine floors, detailed moldings, 7 fireplaces, triple hung 9-foot windows, and 12-foot ceilings.

The grand double house boasts Greek Revival wrap-around piazzas and is a Category 3 House listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Stay and relax as the Inn’s luxury accommodations will meet and wow your every need. 11 rooms each have their own historic character and charm, as well as, private porches, soaring 12’ ceilings, King 4 Post beds, marble showers, and outdoor sitting areas.

The inn has an arrangement with 4 local restaurants & offers breakfast every morning within walking distance. There is also on-site complimentary parking and each evening wine, cheese, and sherry is served in the parlor. Walkable to The Battery & White Point Gardens as well as the retail and dining offerings of King Street.

John Rutledge House Inn

This home was originally built in the 1760s by John Rutledge, an integral figure guiding South Carolina through the American Revolution. He was a prominent leader in South Carolina’s legislature, as he was South Carolina’s first governor. Rutledge helped draft and was a signer of the U.S. Constitution. He played a significant role in the formation of this nation and its history. Many famous political figures have stayed in the home, including George Washington and William Howard Taft.

The inn is truly a living history museum and award-winning bed & breakfast. The John Rutledge House Inn represents warm southern hospitality and a timeless sense of Charleston charm. Afternoon tea and light hor d’oeuvres are included with your stay as well as an inviting evening port, sherry, and brandy.

Wentworth Mansion

The Wentworth Mansion is an expansive and ornate building located in historic Harleston Village, downtown Charleston. Designed in the Second Empire style, 149 Wentworth, was designed by Daniel G. Waynes and built in the late 1800s. The inn was originally a private residence, changing hands a few times and used for different purposes.

An extensive $7 million renovation of the home in 1997 preserved the marvelous architectural features while adding modern conveniences. The mansion epitomizes opulence with Italian crystal chandeliers, hand-carved marble fireplaces, original flooring, and staircases, as well as Tiffany Glass.

There are a total of 21 unique rooms and suites to choose from, each offering the finer touches and treats such as fresh flowers, daily newspapers, a whirl tub jacuzzi, and a mini-fridge, just to name a few… along with historic and charming rooms. An off-site health club access is included with your stay. Enjoy the views of the beautiful city from the rooftop cupola, and walk to many of the famous restaurants, shops, and historic buildings in just a few minutes.

Circa 1886, the seasonally-inspired restaurant, is open daily for breakfast on the property in one of the original carriage homes. Executive Chef Marc Collins has created a unique menu that takes you through the palette of the South Carolina foodways and multinational influences. The ingredients he uses from local farmers tell a beautiful story of Charleston’s rich history.
