French Quarter

French Quarter

Historic cobblestone streets with galleries, theaters, and river views.

Welcome to French Quarter

Located in Charleston is where you can find the remnants of the original walled city. This lively downtown neighborhood was named after the area's French merchants who have occupied the area throughout it's rich history.

Home to historic buildings, the Dock Street Theater, several gorgeous churches, and galleries, the French Quarter's original cobblestone streets, and horse drawn carriages exude an old world Charleston charm, and a quiet residential neighborhood of magnificent homes.

While available homes for sale in the French Quarter are harder to come by, homebuyers do have a few different options. You can find a mix of newer luxury residences and older homes full of character. High-end waterfront residences provide residents with fantastic views of the Cooper River, and the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge.

Another popular housing option in the French Quarter, Charleston are historic converted apartments and condo buildings. Homes often come with well-established courtyard gardens, and beautiful ornate wrought iron gates.

As with most urban neighborhoods, square footage is tight, but what these homes lack in size, they more than make up for in location and looks. Architecturally stunning, homes in the French Quarter feature fine examples of early Georgian homes.

Amenities in the French Quarter

Step into another time on the historic streets of the French Quarter. There's always lots to see and do in this neighborhood, such as dining in quaint restaurants, exploring the cobblestone streets, or browsing trendy boutiques and galleries.

Another must see in Charleston is a tour of the area's churches, most notably the country's only French Anglican Church. Theater-goers from all over catch live performances at Dock Street Theater. A ghost tour in one of many ancient graveyards is another popular activity for locals and visitors.

The local art scene is also alive and well in the French Quarter. The neighborhood hosts a series of year-round Art Walks, making it a cultural hub for artists and art lovers alike. There's lots of shopping and dining too with historic establishments lining the area's alleyways.

In particular, Philadelphia Alley, Lodge Alley, and Down Unity Alley feature some worthwhile stops including McCrady's Restaurant, while East Bay Street has world-famous Magnolia's, High Cotton, and Blossom Cafe.
